We emphasize lean production processes, working to reduce energy and resource consumption, green house gas emission, and waste generation.
Energy-Saving Initiatives
- Silgan Plastics reduced its energy consumption by 109.8 M Kwh since 2007 while still increasing our output through initiatives such as the installation of energy efficient lighting systems with timers, upgraded chiller and cooling systems and installation of variable speed drives
- Silgan utilizes an “Energy Dashboard” to monitor its ongoing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions which it has been tracking since 1997
And then there’s Corrugate
- Silgan works with its customers to eliminate secondary
packaging through multiuse shipping containers and
pallets or eliminating the cartons completely by
utilizing trays or tier sheets
- Silgan’s corrugate maintains a minimum of 30%
recycled content, with some locations sourcing
corrugate with up to 100% recycled content
- In 2010, Silgan saved over 63,000 trees by purchasing
corrugate with 100% recycled content for use at 3 of our Canadian facilities
