In 1937, the first blow molded plastic bottle was developed for commercial use by the company that later became known as Silgan. Since the blow-molding industry's beginning, Silgan companies have led the way for process and material advancements in the industry. In 1987, Philip Silver and Greg Horrigan, now Co-Chairmen of the Board, founded Silgan Plastics with the purchase of the Monsanto Company's plastic container business. Based on their rich experience in the packaging industry they focused on growing the business through sound acquisitions and strong customer relationships. Since the company's inception over 20 years ago, Silgan has grown dramatically with the following 12 acquisitions.
