Direct Silkscreen Printing 

Silkscreen printing of decoration––both graphics and text––directly onto a package surface is one of the most popular and widely used forms of bottle decoration. Both brand owners and consumers prefer the “direct print” format because screen-printed decoration tends to remain solidly in place during use, while labels can fall or be torn off.  Screen printing is especially applicable on packaging of personal care products and other products that are typically used in wet or humid environments

Pressure Sensitive Labeling

The label structure consists of the label film and a carrier film that is removed as the label is applied. PS materials are typically made from either high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene (PP), though there are also coextrusion blends available. The label structures can be uni- or biaxially oriented, or can be cast films.  

Shrink Sleeve

Shrink sleeves tend to be most popular for high-value products for which brand owners want dramatic shelf presence.  Typically made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polystyrene or polyvinylidene chloride (PVdC), shrink sleeves can accommodate a broad range of printing techniques. A powerful marketing attribute is their ability to deliver a full 360 degree billboard effect.

In-Mold Labeling

In-mold labeling (IML) is ideal for higher-volume containers where it is desirable for packages to arrive pre-labeled at the filler.  The materials traditionally used for IML applications are polypropylene based, but polystyrene (PS) has also been used. Most IML label materials utilize a plastic blend that allows the label to be placed into the mold before the bottle is molded. During molding, the label is absorbed into the sidewall and becomes part of the container structure.  In addition to creating a decoration that cannot slough off by abrasion, IML labels are also ideal for applications that are subjected to refrigeration or other high-humidity environments.

Heat Transfer Labeling

This process is a viable option for applications that require as many as 10 colors.  Heat transfer labeling is most often used with larger format bottles for which a PS label becomes cost-prohibitive. In addition, many heat-transfer label converters have been transitioning from rotogravure to flexography printing techniques, further bringing down costs.  

Stretch Sleeve Labeling

Stretch sleeve printing offers a 360 degree message area providing maximum visual impact and presence. This decorating technique is recyclable.  Typically products utilizing this technique are in the household and industrial chemical segment.
